Abstract

The structure of a new dimeric indole alkaloid, named arundanine, isolated from the roots of Arundo donax L. (Poaceae), was elucidated. Arundanine was identified as 3-(N,N-di- methylaminoethyl)-4-[3-(N,N-dimethylaminoethyl)indole-1-yl]-5-hydroxyindole on the basis of spectroscopic data and the transformation into the known alkaloid, arundamine.
