Abstract

In the article, the author provides information about the methods used in onomastics. Karakalpakstan, including the collection and study of toponymy materials of the Khodjeyli region by region, presented a number of scientific works interpreted linguistically, historically, geographically and topologically. Linguistic and extralinguistic study of ethnonyms and ethnotonyms and obtaining scientific conclusions is one of the important problems of modern Karakalpak onamastics. The reason is that ethnonyms and ethnotonyms in the Karakalpak language are, on the one hand, modern material, and on the other, very ancient terms. Hence, it is not possible to study them in just one way in research. Before studying ethnotonyms, it is necessary to collect information about the historical, ethnographic and linguistic diversity on which they are based, to get acquainted with scientific sources. The results obtained on such historical and archaeological data, geography, ethnography, folklore in the study of ethnotonyms of Karakalpakstan also have practical and theoretical significance. The emergence of ethnonyms and ethnotoponyms is associated with the ancient history of living in a particular geographical area.
